About

Hello! My name is Jacqueline LaPorte and welcome to my blog.  Since you have already saw the title I am sure you are thinking, “Christ, another vegan…” stay with me though, because I once shared the same beliefs and I’m sure even muttered the same phrase! I am actually not a vegan, I am a vegetarian—and have been for two years.  Although, the finish line for me is to, one day, have a vegan diet completely.  Since that is one of my long-term goals I have decided to make the primary focus of this blog strictly plant-based so I can learn, myself, as I try to inform others.

Through my personal experience, I have realized that there is certain stigma surrounding diets that do not include meat, which brings me to the creation of this blog!  I would like to shine some light on what a diet without meat looks and tastes like!  Knowledge I have obtained through my own trial and error.

When I first decided to change my eating habits I dove, more like belly flopped, right into being a vegan. The girl who ate buffalo chicken for breakfast, lunch, and dinner decided sure let’s do this, how hard can it be?  Along with this, I made the switch with no research, whatsoever.  The results…. headaches on headaches with a side of headaches!  Since I was: 1) accustomed to my current diet and 2) so ill prepared I did not know what to eat, so I wasn’t eating, and my body was reacting accordingly.  This, “vegan diet” ended with me standing over a bowl of mac and cheese shoveling copious amounts into my mouth.

Fast forward a year later, one day I chose to not eat meat.  I didn’t declare or decide I was changing my diet; I just wanted to see what would happen.  The next day was more of the same and so on and so forth.  Since that day, when I decided let’s not eat meat today, I have no concisely eaten meat since.  Have I accidently eaten meat? Absolutely! Was it upsetting? Absolutely.  But choosing not to eat meat has made me an overall more conscientious person about what I consume daily, along with feeling the best I have ever had. Shortly after I stopped eating meat I decided to cut out seafood as well.  I did not eat a lot of it on a daily basis to begin with so it just made sense to me.

To this day people still make comments: “Arg, what am I going to feed you?” “Jack, what do you eat on Thanksgiving?” “Ew tofu is gross.” “Plants have feelings too yano!” “I would try to go vegan, but it’s too expensive.” These comments and ideas around a vegan diet is what made me what to create this blog.  Veganism does not have to mean a lack of—flavor, money, options, or variety and I hope this blog, along with your own research—if you so choose, can show you that!  Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts, oh and anything you eat, I can eat vegan!
